Why We Started the Program:
We recently started our Guardian Program so that we can expand our business while still making sure all our dogs get the attention and love they need to be happy and healthy. So how does the program work?
Program Overview:
Each year, we have a few spots for families to join our program. In short, the families we work with get a pick of the litter puppy. They take the puppy home, name her, raise her, and love her. When she is old enough, they bring her back to breed with one of our sires. Once bred, they take the dog home and continue to care for her throughout the pregnancy. About a week before her due date, the family will bring her to our farm where we will care for her throughout the whelping process (owners are welcome to be there for whelping and encouraged to visit during the 5 weeks their dog is raising the puppies). This process is repeated once a year for four consecutive years.
Benefits: We pay for OFA and genetic testing when the dog is two years old, and we pay all pregnancy related expenses. After the contract is fulfilled, the owners are reimbursed the initial adoption cost. For each puppy their dog has, they receive $250. If owners decide to keep their dog in the program after four years, they will receive $400 for each puppy.
Males in the Guardian Program:
We do allow males in our program although the details and benefits are different. At two years old, we pay for the dog’s OFA and genetic testing. Male dogs in our program come to the farm when we need a sire and stay for the duration of the female’s heat. For each litter the dog sires, the owner receives a $500 stud fee.
